Grand in-4: 23 x 29,5 cm, 1 front., 4 ff. n. chiff., 571 pp., 2 ff. n. chiff [catalogue] + 30 pl. grav., 4 cartes dép., 4 panoramas dép., Précieuse et rare édition originale enrichie dun frontispice, de 30 figures hors-texte, de quatre très grandes cartes dépliantes et de quatre autres panoramas dépliants reliés in fine. Cartonnage de lépoque avec le dos sobrement renforcé en papier gris. Bel exemplaire, parfaitement propre, très grand de marges et non ébarbé. Après son premier voyage à la recherche du passage du Nord-Ouest, Parry repart en 1821 pour une seconde expédition, plus longue, deux deux hivers sur les glaces, qui se terminera aussi sans succès - le passage sera ouvert par Amundsen au début du XXe siècle - mais qui fournira des données particulièrement importantes pour la connaissance des Esquimaux. On trouve en fin de volume un vocabulaire de leur langue.

Second édition, parue peu après loriginale, illustrée de 6 cartes, dont 4 dépliantes et de 14 figures hors-texte dont neuf aquatintes, et augmentée, comme il se doit, de la North Gorgia Gazette and Winter Chronicle (Sabine, XIV, no 58860 / Brunet, IV, col. 378-388). Reliure de lépoque en veau glacé. Dos à nerfs avec pièce de titre en maroquin vert et caissons ornés. Ex-libris: «Charles Atwood Kofoi». Reliure habillement restautée. Rousseurs éparses. Précieuse relation du premier voyage de Parry (1790-1855) à la recherche du passage du Nord-Ouest. Cette légendaire expédition constitue la première exploration importante de l'Arctique. Durant ce périple, Parry cartographia des centaines de kilomètres de côtes et nomma, par exemple, le détroit de Barrow, la crique du Prince Regent (Prince Regent Inlet), le canal de Wellington (Wellington Channel) et, bien entendu, plusieurs des îles Parry (aujourdhui, Îles de la Reine-Élisabeth). Désirable exemplaire de cette relation de voyage.

"Prima edizione".William Parry, navigatore ed esploratore inglese (1790-1855), effettu tre spedizioni alla ricerca di un passaggio a nord-ovest. Questo il resoconto della seconda spedizione artica, iniziata nel maggio 1821. Parry was twice frozen in for several months, but made many explorations and discoveries by sea and by land. He became a captain in November of that year, and in 1823 was appointed acting hydrographer to the Admiralty. This work deals with the chracteristics of the Eskimos and is a treatise on aboriginal life as well as a narrative of scientific discoveries.
