‎Édition originale des récits des deux grandes expéditions commandées par le gouvernement britannique pour la découverte du passage du Nord-Ouest. La première, dirigée par le capitaine John Franklin, fut une exploration terrestre à travers les régions arctiques du Canada, entre la baie d’Hudson et la mer polaire, marquée par des privations extrêmes et la mort de plusieurs membres de l’expédition. La seconde, conduite par le capitaine William Edward Parry à bord des navires Hecla et Griper, tenta d’atteindre le même objectif par la mer, à travers les glaces du détroit de Lancaster et de la baie de Baffin.
