In his research Osokin presents the information and observations he has collected gives colorful descriptions of the area describes the way of life of the diverse inhabitants of the border strip of the Transbaikal region and neighboring Mongolia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The first four chapters are devoted to the Western Transbaikal region in which the author describes its geographical position climate vegetation population.
