‎First printing of Tarski and Jónsson's important first joint publication, which constitutes the starting point of the influential Jónsson-Tarski algebras and the Jónsson-Tarski duality. The important Icelandic mathematician and logician Bjarni Jónsson (born 1920) received his PhD the year before the present publication at the University of Berkely, under the supervision of Alfred Tarski, the great Polish-American who has contributed seminally to the fields of mathematics and logic in a number of ways, and who together with Frege, Russell and Gödel now ranks as the most important contributor to the field of logic. He is thus considered one of the four greatest logicians of all times.‎

‎Summary Historiography on the Vikings of the East - the Rus' and the Varangians - has been both multiform and varied, but it has been invariably focused on actual historical events, and the extent to which these are accurately reflected in written sources. In contrast, very little attention has been paid up to now to the narrators behind these medieval accounts, to their motives in writing, or to the context in which they were working. This volume aims to redress the balance by offering a re-examination of medieval sources on the Eastern Vikings and by highlighting ongoing 'debates' concerning the identities of the Rus' and the Varangians in the medieval period. The chapters gathered here compare and contrast sources emanating from different cultures - Byzantium, the Abbasid Caliphate and its successor states, the early kingdoms of the Rus', and the high medieval Scandinavian kingdoms - and examine what significance these sources have attached to the Rus' and the Varangians in different contexts. The result is a new understanding of how different cultures chose to define themselves in relation to one another, and a new perspective on the history of the Scandinavian peoples in the East. ‎Panorama gravé du siège du château de Kronborg au Danemark en 1658 par la Suède. Signée dans la planche : E.I. Dahlbergh ad viuum del. Planche numérotée "N°85" en bas à droite. Cette gravure de la fin du XVIIe siècle montre le château sous le feu des canons pendant la guerre dano-suédoise de 1658-60, lorsque la Suède a envahi le Danemark. En 1658, la forteresse fut bombardée et conquise par l'armée suédoise, qui pilla le château. La tragédie d'Hamlet, prince du Danemark se déroule dans une forteresse fictive nommée Elseneur, qui serait basée sur le château de Kronborg, dans la ville d'Helsingør, sur la côte nord-est du Danemark.
