<p>This publication is a complete catalogue of 17th-century miniatures in the national collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum. It offers a full account of the physical construction of the miniatures, setting each object in its historical context both in terms of the artist's oeuvre and of the portraiture of the known sitters. A biographical introduction to each artist is followed by individual catalogue entries, which cover details about the sitters; the object's size and format; the materials and techniques employed; the signature or inscription; the miniature's condition, frame and provenance; and reference to any supporting exhibitions and literature.
