‎"Le présent ouvrage, s'il n'est pas original au sens littéral puisque c'est une compilation d'une quarantaine d'articles, parus dans plusieurs publications américaines (principalement le Public Opinion. Quarterly et l'American Political Science Review), disposés dans un ordre logique et reliés par quelques contributions écrites spécialement pour le présent volume, n'en paraîtra pas moins nouveau à la plupart de ses lecteurs français. Ce sont essentiellement des articles de méthode dont la préoccupation principale est de définir le champ et de forger la méthode d'une discipline peu connue et peu pratiquée encore en France : l'étude du « political behavior » se propose pour objet le comportement des individus et des groupes et leur rôle dans le processus de la vie politique, le tout envisagé dans une perspective dynamique : elle s'intéressera par exemple aux motivations des actes politiques, aux croyances, aux modes de la participation politique. La lecture de cette série d'articles dont certains sont nourris de références concrètes inspirera d'utiles réflexions aux spécialistes français. Les études sur le « décision making » ou celles sur l'apolitisme, l'esquisse d'une typologie politique seront sans doute au nombre de celles qui retiendront le plus leur intérêt. Tous les exemples sont pris dans la réalité politique américaine : ce qui oblige le lecteur français à un utile effort de transposition pour adapter les méthodes mentionnées aux phénomènes européens. Une copieuse bibliographie classée et commentée guidera ceux qui désireraient pousser plus loin leur contact avec les conceptions et les réalisations américaines dans ce domaine important de la science politique."
