‎Mark Manders - Zeno X Gallery, 28 Years of Collaboration offers an overview of the long-standing collaboration between artist Mark Manders ( 1968) and Zeno X Gallery in Antwerp. The publication appears on the occasion of his most recent solo exhibition at the gallery and highlights a number of important exhibitions and special projects for which Manders has been invited at home and abroad from the 1990s to the present. Since 1986, Mark Manders has been working on what he calls "self-portrait as a building". His oeuvre - consisting of installations, sculptures, works on paper and drawings - takes on the metaphor of a fictitious building, subdivided into separate rooms whose precise shape and size cannot be defined. There is no beginning and no end. Manders strives for timelessness and universality by using archetypal forms and familiar-looking materials such as clay, bronze and wood. ‎The exceedingly rare first edition of the Reverend Mark Frank’s posthumously published sermons. Mark Frank (1613-1664), was a theologian associated with Pembroke College, Cambridge. Frank's loyalty to the monarchy was evident in a sermon he preached before Charles I, consequently earning royal favor which earned him numerous ecclesiastical promotions, including becoming a Doctor of Divinity and serving as master of Pembroke College. Mark Frank left behind a rather large corpus of unpublished scholarly and evangelical sermons, which were posthumously published in the present work. Wing F2074A‎

‎ 1872 1872. Fully Illustrated by Eminent Artists. (Issued by Subscription Only...) Hartford, Conn.: American Publishing Company [etc.], 1872. 1 page undated ads. Original black cloth decorated in gilt. First American Edition, first issue, of this very early Twain title -- his fourth major book. In July 1861, as the Civil War was getting underway, Twain headed out west as private secretary to his brother Orion, who had just been appointed Secretary of Nevada Territory; Twain's "account of the continental crossing with Orion is a full-throated celebration of a golden era, of travel, youth, adventure, and America's last frontier" [Kaplan]..~The first issue is identifiable by the proper printing of lines 20-21 on p. 242.; also this copy does have ads on p. [592], which may be a further first-issue point. This is a near-fine copy (only a trace of wear at some edges, slight cracking of the front endpaper); as usual the binding's "gilt" (if actual gilt it is) has oxidized to a copper color. Blanck 3337 (indicating that the British editions may have been issued a few days earlier); McBride p. 18.~In our experience, it is quite difficult to find in decent shape copies of the first three of Twain's books that were issued in this hefty, oversized format (THE INNOCENTS ABROAD in 1869, this title in 1872, and THE GILDED AGE in 1873); it is not that hard to find the fourth and last (A TRAMP ABROAD in 1879).‎

All of these texts are damaged at some point during the printings(s), and all, including the one on page 242, are found in endless random combinations. At some point, two words were altered: at page 156.2 up "thirteenth" was corrected to "sixteenth" - this copy has the uncorrected "thirteenth" -and on page 330.16 up "Eastern" was corrected to "eastern" - this copy has the uncorrected listing. These changes could distinguish between two printings, but may only distinguish between two later printings. It is like any busy lower-class street in Bombay, densely populated by vendors, merchants and shops, but also overcrowded with girls, from 11-year-olds to 65-year-old ex-madams. The street is lined with old wooden buildings, which teem with prostitutes hanging out of the windows, in the viewing cages on the ground floor, and on the steps. From sunrise to sunset the customers pass down the street to survey the girls. Mary Ellen Mark's extraordinary portrait of Falkland Road was first published in 1981 and has long been recognized as one of the major bodies of work in the canon of this significant Magnum photographer. The book contains 65 photographs made over six weeks that show the daily life lived by the women (and men) of the street.
