‎[Ethiopie], SD [XIXe siècle]. 1 vol in-8° (140 x 100 mm) manuscrit à l'encre rouge et noire de 164 ff numérotés au crayon, de 12 à 18 lignes par page, texte de plusieurs mains en écriture en guèze et en amharique. Reliure dépoque, plats de ais de bois brut, dos nu, ficelles et coutures apparentes formant quatre nerfs, vingt cahiers apparents. (quelques traces de mouillures et salissures, 1 plat refait à l'identique).‎

‎Manuscrit éthiopien de doctrine chrétienne « Nagara Haymanot » (Discours sur la foi) et autres textes, dépoque 19éme rédigé sur parchemin à lencre noire et rouge en guèze et en amharique. L'amharique s'écrit à l'aide de l'alphasyllabaire amharique, dérivé de l'alphasyllabaire éthiopien. Selon le Dictionnaire historique de la Bible, il aurait commencé à supplanter le guèze en Abyssinie, vers lan 1300, et on le parlait vers 1900 dans presque toute cette région. Les missionnaires catholiques furent les premiers qui essayèrent de traduire en amharique des parties de la bible ; qui fut traduite pour la première fois, en entier, de 1810 à 1820, par Asselin de Cherville, consul de France au Caire, aidé de Abou-Roumi. De nos jours, l'amharique est la langue majoritaire des Éthiopiens, dont 27 millions en langue maternelle. En comptant les Éthiopiens qui le parlent en seconde langue, plus de 50 millions d'Éthiopiens savent sans doute parler l'amharique sur 85 millions d'habitants. Notre manuscrit comporte 164 feuillets réunissant plusieurs textes faisant référence à la bible et a nouveau testament. Chaque texte débute par « « Au nom du père et du fils et des saintes écritures » à lencre rouge. Le premier texte traite de Lazare (ff 1 à 4). Le second de la genèse (ff. 5 à 57). Le troisième donne les règles de la foi selon les saintes écritures : le jeune, la prière, la maitrise de soi, lhumilité, la pureté et lamour. (ff 57 à 62). Le 4éme débute par « La première religion est la religion de la bible » (ff 63 à 94). Le 6éme traite de divers passages des évangiles, dont : Lannonciation à marie par lange Gabriel, la naissance du christ, de lenfantement dElisabeth très âgée, le baptême du Christ, la communion du christ avec les apôtres (ff 95 à 163). Il nexiste que quelques exemplaires manuscrits de ce texte inédit. Ouvrage cousu en 20 cahiers et conservé dans sa reliure dais de bois brut. 1 vol. 8vo (140 x 100 mm) manuscript in red and black ink, 164 folios numbered in pencil, 12 to 18 lines per page, text written by several hands in Ge'ez and Amharic. Contemporary binding, rough wooden boards, bare spine, visible strings and stitching forming four raised bands, twenty visible sections. (some traces of water damage and soiling, 1 board replaced identically). Ethiopian manuscript of Christian doctrine Nagara Haymanot (Discourse on Faith) and other texts, dating from the 19th century, written on parchment in black and red ink in Ge'ez and Amharic. Amharic is written using the Amharic syllabary, derived from the Ethiopian syllabary. According to the Historical Dictionary of the Bible, it began to supplant Ge'ez in Abyssinia around 1300, and by 1900 it was spoken throughout most of the region. Catholic missionaries were the first to attempt to translate parts of the Bible into Amharic, which was translated in its entirety for the first time between 1810 and 1820 by Asselin de Cherville, French consul in Cairo, with the help of Abou-Roumi. Today, Amharic is the main language of Ethiopians, with 27 million speaking it as their mother tongue. Including Ethiopians who speak it as a second language, more than 50 million Ethiopians out of a population of 85 million can undoubtedly speak Amharic. Our manuscript comprises 164 pages bringing together several texts referring to the Bible and the New Testament. Each text begins with In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Scriptures in red ink. The first text deals with Lazarus (ff. 1 to 4). The second deals with Genesis (ff. 5 to 57). The third gives the rules of faith according to the Holy Scriptures: fasting, prayer, self-control, humility, purity, and love (ff. 57 to 62). The fourth begins with The first religion is the religion of the Bible (ff. 63 to 94). The sixth deals with various passages from the Gospels, including: the Annunciation to Mary by the angel Gabriel, the birth of Christ, the birth of Elizabeth in her old age, the baptism of Christ, Christ's communion with the apostles... (ff. 95 to 163). Only a few manuscript copies of this unpublished text exist. The work is bound in 20 sections and preserved in its original rough wooden binding.‎
