Anvers, 1878-1882 Tête de collection: les 4 premières années de cette revue artistique anversoise qui n'a paru que pendant 7 années (1878/79-1884/85), Quatre années/tomes reliées en 2 volumes physiques uniformes d'époque (reliures demi-cuir, plats marbrés, titre et décorations dorées aux dos), feuilles de garde marbrées, tranches supérieures dorées, 25cm., Tome I: [iv] + 510pp., tome II: iii + 440pp., tome III: [vi] + 468pp., tome IV: [viii] + 424pp., avec quelques illustrations dans le texte, à noter: la plupart des planches hors-texte manquent (13 des 42 y sont présent dans les tomes 1 et 2), texte frais, bon exemplaire, très rare, poids: 4.5kg., S94684

" Anvers, s.d. (ca. 1877), in-4°, 31 x 22 cm, 44 pp + 28 phototypies h.t., publisher's decorated cloth binding, edges gilt, silky endpapers. The front cover shows in a large red centre piece the gilt reproduction of one of the more elaborate Plantin's printer's marks; within a green surrounding. Very nice copy with nicely preserved fresh publisher's binding. This is most probably the second edition of this illustrated description of the new Plantin-Moretus Museum. We handled the very first edition where the plates were real collotypes (only 16 ) In this copy the illustrations are now called 'phototypies' and are printed directly on the book pages. (probably in some sort of half-tone process) There are now 28 plates due certainly to the cheaper reproduction process..Very well preserved copy."

" Anvers, s.d. (ca. 1877), in-4°, 31 x 22 cm, 29 pp + 16 photoplates (collotypes) h.t., publisher's decorated cloth binding, all edges gilt, silky endpapers . The front cover shows a red centre piece with coat of arms containing the text: Musée Plantin-Moretus à Anvers; within a green surrounding; Slightly disbound copy (due to the thick boards) and with some sparse foxing spots. This is surely the very first edition of this book published on the occasion of the opening of the Plantin-Museum. In this copy the illustration are called by the publisher ''Photo-Autotypies'' . (collotype in English) The collotypes are printed separately from glass plates and mounted on stiff boards with printed captions and red printed fillet borders. In fact they are still in a way real photographs. In later editions of this work the illustrations are called ''Phototypies'' and are printed directly on the book pages. (probably in some sort of half-tone process) The later editions contained also more illustrations, as they would be much cheaper to produce.."

Anvers ( Antwerpen ), Phototypie Jos. Maes, Dero Frères, Succ., 10 rue Gramaye, 1892. Large in-folio album, 50 x 35 cm, title + XXI plates, boundi n publisher's red cloth with large gilt lettering on front cover. Binding a bit dustsoiled, interior fine but he protective serpent leaves are partially damaged and/or missing. Impressive album with 21 large collotype plates illustrating a pageant . Most of the plates contain 2 or 3 collotypes of decorated waggons illustrating historical scenes. The theme of the pageant , organized on the 50th anniversary of the Academical Historical Society pageant was organised around the theme of the late medieval national Dutch drama festival ''lLandjuweel''.

Scarce Antwerp art periodical which pays much attention to the contemporary art scene (exhibitions, auctions, salons etc.). Contributors include Max Rooses, Georges Eekhoud, Ivan Gilkin a.o. The illustrations, many of contemporary Antwerp paintings , are of a very high technical quality. Anvers, Jos. Maes, impr. Mees & Co., 1877, format 24 x 17 cm, 8 pp.text + 150 plates (Portraits in photo-engraving - héliogravure). Loose as issued. Kept in a modern purposely made cloth box with leather title label on spine. Title and text pages a bit soiled and spotted. Plates in very fine condition Rare collection of portraits of Antwerp artists reproduced in photo-engraving. In 1877 this was a very innovative use of photography. Many of the 16th and 17th c. portraits are based on Van Dyck's iconography. The collection contains also 18th and 19th c. artist portraits. These last images are difficult to find elswhere.

Binding with some wear, all the plates have come loose in the binding - because they were mounted on thick board interior with some slight stains and foxing. Unfortunately an incomplete copy of this rare Antwerp art periodical. Contributors include T. Hannon, George Eekhoud, Lucien Solvay , L. van Keymeulen, Sleeckx, Max Rooses...... Among the illustrations are calotype views of the ''Blauwe Toren ''; the interior of the studio of the painter Wauters....The periodical contains lively articles on the Antwerp and Belgian art scene, especially on art exhibitions such as ; Salon de Gand, d'Anvers, de Paris, Cercle Artistique, ... In all 7 years were published (from 1878-1884)."
