In feiner Schönschrift hielt der gebildete Brite die Reisen in Begleitung seiner Frau fest, beschreibt sorgfältig die Reise selbst, aber natürlich auch Land und Leute. Patrick Macintyre († 1888) war der Sekretär der 'United Kingdom Life Assurance Company' in London, ein Mitglied der 'Royal geographical Society of London' (sein Aufnahmegesuch und ein paar Briefe aus seiner Korrespondenz mit der society liegen als Fotokopien bei) und auch Mitglied der 'Society of Antiquaries'. Seine Frau Phoebe Macintyre (1790-1863) schuf dazu eine Anzahl feiner lavierter Bilder zur Illustration. Als Tochter des amerikanischen Portraitmalers James Earl (1761-1796) war sie bereits eine Malerin von Stilleben, als sie in erster Ehe den britischen Schlachtenmaler Denis Dighton (1792-1827) heiratete. Von 1820 bis 1835 stellte sie unter seinem Namen ihre Früchte- und Blumenbilder an der Royal Academy, der Suffolk Street Gal. und der Old Water Colour Soc. aus und erhielt 1830 den Titel 'Fruit and Flower painter to the queen'. Nach dem frühen Tod ihres Mannes heiratete sie wieder und präsentierte als Mrs Macintyre noch 1841-42 und 1854 an der Royal Academy ihre Bilder. (Thieme / Becker, Bd. 9, 284; Benezit, Bd. 3, 583). 1. ‎First publication.Alasdair Chalmers MacIntyre (1929 - ) is mainly know for his contributions to ethics, being one of the principal exponents of modern virtue ethics, as it is shown in his important work 'After Virtue' (1981) but also already in the popular 'A Short History of Ethics' (1966). Whereas many contemporary philosophers advance philosophical positions by focusing on the logical, analytical or so-called scientific underpinnings, MacIntyre normally utilizes dialectics in order to present a historical narration of the development of ethics in order to illuminate the modern problem of incommensurable moral notions used independently of their original conceptual frameworks. And normally MacIntyre does not solve the conceptual problems he identifies, but argues for one tradition of ethics as being better than the others, namely the special brand of virtue ethics that can be elaborated from Aristotelianism. In the present article, though, he differs a bit form this normal method. He argues, in a traditionally analytic style, for coherent solution of ""the problem of free-will and determinism"" claiming that there ""is no way out of arguing that determinism and a belief in human responsibility are really compatible"". This makes this article a looking-glass into a more rare area of MacIntyre's philosophy.The issue also contains contributions by P. Herbst, O. L. Perry, C. Johnson, J. J. Smart, etc. ‎
