Les manuscrits de Gilgit comptent parmi les plus anciens manuscrits au monde et constituent la plus ancienne collection de manuscrits conservée au Pakistan. Ils revêtent une importance majeure pour les études bouddhiques et l'évolution des littératures asiatique et sanskrite. On pense que ces manuscrits ont été écrits entre le Ve et le VIe siècle de notre ère, bien que d'autres manuscrits aient été découverts au cours des siècles suivants, également classés comme manuscrits de Gilgit.
