Le terrain désormais exploité par l'Aérodrome de Niort - Marais Poitevin commença à sevir de champ d'aviation en 1910, mais son activité ne démarra réellement qu'avec la fondation de l'Aéro-Club des Deux Sèvres, au printemps 1927.‎
