‎Edition originale de cet ensemble publié par le fils aîné de Hearn pour commémorer le 26e anniversaire bouddhiste de la mort de son père. Il est composé de près d'une centaine de lettres reçues par Lafcadio Hearn de Basil Hall Chamberlain, le grand japonologue et érudit de la fin du XIXe siècle, professeur de japonais et de philologie à l’Université de Tokyo. C'est sur la recommandation de ce britannique installé au Japon depuis 1874 que Lafcadio Hearn avait obtenu son premier poste à Matsue.
