The aim of this book is to discuss late medieval passion panoramas. This term refers to a small group of panel paintings, created mainly in the last quarter of the 15th, which combine the technique of simultaneously composed passion iconography with a depiction of Jerusalem and its outskirts. Produced mainly by Netherlandish and sometimes Westphalian artists, these pictures represent episodes from Christ's passion in detail, emphasizing the role of Jerusalem, the Holy City in which His mission of salvation was accomplished.
