Hij pint zich niet vast op een schriftuur maar verkent diverse schildertechnieken en -stijlen. Vaak dienen internetbeelden of eigen foto's als vertrekpunt. Dit leidt tot een oeuvre waarbinnen figuratieve afbeeldingen en abstracte beelden op elkaar inwerken. Ghekiere is gefascineerd door ongecompliceerde, clichematige schoonheid: stillevens met planten of bloemen, of portretten van opgesmukte dames onder meer. Dit soort schoonheid stelt hij in vraag door middel van een ongewoon coloriet, in elkaar vloeiende kleurschakeringen, negatiefbeelden en vervormde composities. Schoonheid evolueert en is immers uiteindelijk vergankelijk. De uitdeinende cirkels die de kunstenaar vaak bovenop zijn beelden spuit, wekken het gevoel op dat zijn schilderijen veranderlijk en beweeglijk zijn en dat er binnen een beeld meerdere perspectieven naast elkaar bestaan. Schoonheid wordt door Ghekiere zowel letterlijk als figuurlijk in een ander perspectief geplaatst. Tegelijk ondermijnt zijn artistieke ingreep de leesbaarheid van zijn beelden van binnenuit: complexloze clicheschoonheid wordt omgezet naar een nieuwe esthetiek gekenmerkt door ongrijpbare complexiteit. En precies deze onvatbaarheid daagt bij het kijken naar Ghekieres schilderijen uit. Het oeuvre van Joris Ghekiere behoort, zoals dat van verschillende Belgische schilders van zijn generatie, tot de beeldbevragende actuele schilderkunst. Daarbij wordt het medium schilderkunst zelf ingezet om het beeld zowel op inhoudelijk als op visueel vlak te bevragen. De tentoonstelling in S.M.A.K. toont werk van de late jaren '90 tot vandaag. As a painter, Joris Ghekiere (1955, Kortrijk) occupies a highly individual and ambiguous position. He explores a variety of painting techniques and styles, rather than tying himself down to just one. His own photos and images from the internet often provide the starting point. This results in an oeuvre in which figurative depiction and abstract images interact with each other. Ghekiere is fascinated by uncomplicated, cliched beauty: still-lifes with plants or flowers, or portraits of dolled-up ladies and suchlike. He questions this sort of beauty by means of an unusual range of colours, shades of colour that bleed into one another, negative images and distorted compositions. Beauty is subject to evolution and is, after all, ultimately transient. The circles rippling outwards that the artist often sprays on top of his images give the feeling that his paintings are variable and mobile and that several perspectives exist in parallel within a single image. Ghekiere both literally and figuratively puts beauty in a new perspective. At the same time his artistic intervention undermines the comprehensibility of his images from the inside out: cliched beauty with no complexes is converted into a new aesthetic characterised by an impalpable complexity. And it is precisely this elusiveness that is the challenge when looking at Ghekiere's paintings. Like that of many Belgian painters of his generation, Joris Ghekiere's oeuvre is in line with the form of contemporary painting that questions the nature of the image. The medium of painting itself is employed to enquire into the image both visually and in terms of its content. The exhibition at the S.M.A.K. shows work from the late 1990s to the present. ‎Joris Minne, né à Ostende le 11 mai 18971 et mort à Anvers le 31 mars 19881, est un sculpteur et graveur belge. Joris Minne étudie à l'Académie de dessin de Berchem à partir de 1917, notamment auprès de Frans Mortelmans. Il choisit tôt la gravure et les arts graphiques. Joris Minne est l'un des membres fondateurs de la revue Lumière, lancée par Roger Avermaete en août 1919. La revue, publiée en français, est consacrée à l'avant-garde artistique et littéraire. Il travaille comme bibliothécaire avant de devenir en 1927 enseignant à l'Institut supérieur des Arts Décoratifs dirigé par Henry Van de Velde, où il est nommé responsable des ateliers d'art publicitaire et d'illustration du livre. Joris Minne a essentiellement réalisé des xylographies et des linogravures avant de délaisser la gravure en relief pour s'adonner au burin et à la pointe-sèche. Il est rattaché au groupe des Cinq (« De Vijf ») qui compte également Frans Masereel, Jan Frans Cantré, Jozef Cantré et Henri Van Straten. ‎

‎Pieter Bruegel de Oude (1525/30-1569) is een van de beroemdste schilders van de Nederlanden. ‎La Maison de papier‎

‎Grasset 1970 272 pages 1970. 272 pages. Une fois déjà Françoise Mallet-Joris a fait une pause dans son oeuvre romanesque : ce fut la Lettre à moi-même. Elle y démontrait qu'elle pouvait aussi exceller dans l'art difficile de la confidence sans complaisance. Voici à présent un ouvrage de la même veine mais celui-ci est composé autour d'un lieu commun d'un décor : c'est ' la maison de papier ' ainsi baptisée parce que la demeure de Françoise Mallet-Joris et des siens ressemble à ces ' maisons japonaises si mal fermées ' où chacun peut entrer à sa guise foyer refuge abri pour tous ceux qui s'y plaisent. Ce livre est donc un tableau de l'existence quotidienne dans un ménage d'artistes. Le mari est peintre la femme est écrivain et lectrice dans une maison d'édition. Ils ont deux garçons et deux filles. Des ' employées de maison ' se succèdent. Beaucoup d'amis - ceux des enfants aussi bien que des parents - vont et viennent certains que l'on invite et d'autres que l'on accepte. Il y a aussi les visiteurs imprévus quelques voisins. N'oublions pas les animaux : chien chat pigeon merle poisson rouge. Cela fait déjà beaucoup de monde mais Françoise Mallet-Joris ajoute les personnages qu'elle voit régulièrement au-dehors comme Mme Josette la déconcertante coiffeuse rationaliste. Les enfants tiennent la première place. L'auteur utilise le dialogue comme moyen d'éducation et elle avoue trouver là le moyen de clarifier ses propres idées sur les grands problèmes de base. La vie professionnelle n'est pas oubliée ni les préoccupations religieuses et sociales qui transforment peu à peu ce livre en une critique des moeurs actuelles et mieux encore en une enquête sur la justice et la vérité l'amour de Dieu et l'amour du prochain le bonheur et la joie. On ne verse jamais dans l'abstraction : tout repose sur des expériences directes. Beaucoup de lecteurs sans doute auront l'impression de se trouver chez eux dans ' la maison de papier ' comme s'ils faisaient partie de cette famille. C'est que Françoise Mallet-Joris a le don de préserver avec une sincérité jamais en défaut le frémissement de ses émotions de ses doutes la fraîcheur de ses étonnements l'ironie du regard qu'elle pose sur ses semblables aussi bien que la gravité de sa foi. Rare talent qui sait traduire sans avoir l'air d'y toucher le naturel de la vie‎

De mannen die de foto's maakten waren geen beroepsfotografen, maar dienstplichtigen die in een oorlog werden meegesleurd en hun fototoestel hadden meegenomen om hun groot avontuur mee te illustreren. Van de verschrikkingen van het front en het oorlogstuig van de verslagen vijand tot de steden en dorpen met hun zwartgeblakerde huizen en gedynamiteerde kerktorens: niets ontsnapte aan hun lenzen.
