His support of weapons and opposition to test bans, along with his advocacy of projects such as the Strategic Defense Initiative, made him both one of the most controversial physicists of the twentieth century and one of the most politically influential.Dawn of the Atomic Age. Teller first began to consider the possibilities of a hydrogen weapon in late 1941 when, during a brief period at Columbia University, he met with Nobel laureate Enrico Fermi. Fermi had proposed that a fission explosion might create conditions close enough to what occurs within stars to induce the fusion of heavy hydrogen or deuterium nuclei, which, unlike standard hydrogen nuclei that contain only one proton, feature both a proton and a neutron. ‎"Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (né le 11 août 1778 à Lanz – mort le 15 octobre 1852 à Freyburg, province de Saxe) était un éducateur prussien, promoteur de la gymnastique et du nationalisme germanique via son organisation « Turnverein » au sein du Mouvement gymnique allemand. En 1848, Jahn devient membre du parlement de Francfort. Jahn est l'un des initiateurs de la création de l'Urburschenschaft.Friedrich Ludwig Jahn est le fils d'un pasteur protestant Alexander Friedrich Jahn (1742-1811) et de sa femme, la fille du pasteur Dorothea Sofia, n. Schultze (* 1751). En 1791, il fréquente le lycée de Salzwedel (Altmark), qui fut renommé en 1931 Jahngymnasium Salzwedel. À partir de 1794, il étudie au lycée berlinois du monastère franciscain à Berlin qu'il quitte deux ans plus tard sans diplôme.Il est souvent appelé Turnvater Jahn, le « père de la gymnastique », pour ses apports à ce sport. Sa gymnastique, le « Turnen », agit sur le plan physique mais aussi au niveau du sentiment national. Elle a été conçue après la défaite d'Iéna face à la France. Elle avait pour objectif de préparer la revanche en restaurant la virilité du peuple allemand et le sentiment national dans le but de créer un État-nation allemand. Le Turnen représente la virilité, l'éducation collective qui vise à ré-imprégner l’individu de la culture de son pays. Il développe la solidarité et le sentiment national. Le mouvement du Turnverein qu'il a fondé a eu une influence intellectuelle sur la genèse du nazisme et du Sokol en Tchéquie. Le logotype de son organisation comportait une croix stylisée avec 4 F pour « Frisch, fromm, fröhlich, frei » c'est-à-dire : « frais, pieux, joyeux, libre ». Il considérait la pratique du sport par le peuple comme une nécessité afin travailler contre son asservissement et de préparer la lutte contre « les ennemis de la liberté » et d'éveiller une conscience nationale, en Allemagne. C'est ainsi qu'on lui prête (car non compris dans ses propres publications) la citation suivante : « Les Polonais, les Français, les curetons, la noblesse et les Juifs sont la malchance de l'Allemagne » et qui a été repris au début du xxe siècle pour accréditer le nationalisme allemand, et être considéré par les nazis comme un précurseur de leur doctrine (avec l'amour pour le sport afin maintenir les soldats potentiels en forme)." ‎

Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778 - 1852), professeur de philosophie, éducateur et homme politique. Il est considéré comme le "père de la gymnastique" ("Turnvater Jahn"). Jahn considérait la pratique du sport par le peuple, spécialement par la jeunesse, comme une nécessité pour développer la virilité, la solidarité et le sentiment national. Son but - à travers les exercices sportifs et ses écrits souvent très nationalistes - visait la formation d'une nation allemande dans un pays unifié (à l'époque l'Allemagne se composait d'environ 100 états indépendants). L'ouvrage présent donne un bon aperçu des problèmes de l'Allemagne à l'époque ainsi que des améliorations ou réformes proposées par l'auteur. Sont traités entre-autres les problèmes territoriaux, l'administration, l'éducation, la littérature et l'art national, la vie domestique (avec un hommage rendu au sexe féminin!), les voyages à l'intérieur de l'Allemagne etc. Le traducteur dans sa préface : "Je dis que je regarde cet ouvrage comme bon et utile, parce que beaucoup de reproches adressés à la nation allemande, peuvent trouver leur application chez nous. Pourquoi ce qu'il conseille aux Allemands ne nous conviendrait-il pas aussi avec les modifications voulues par les lois de la nature?". Excellent état ‎

‎Erstausgabe dieser lexikalisch konzipierten Berner Kantonalchronik des aus Twann gebürtigen Archäologen und Historikers Albert Jahn. Sieben Jahre zuvor (1850) erschien bei denselben Verlegern Jahns "Der Kanton Bern, deutschen Theils, antiquarisch-topographisch beschrieben", ebenfalls "ein Lexikon, das ein grosses Studium der Landschaften und der Literatur voraussetzt und zu jedem Ort die Ueberreste und Nachrichten vom Altertum bis ins Mittelalter verzeichnet". Vorliegende als eine Fortsetzung obgenannten Werkes verstandene "Chronik" ist eine Arbeit, die somit chronologisch unmittelbar an sein Erstlingswerk anknüpft. Beide Werke bilden bis heute "die Grundlage für die bernische Orts- und Heimatkunde" (Hans von Greyerz). Die Vorlagen zu den 6 prächtigen Aquatinta-Ansichten lieferte der Berner Künstler Ludwig Stantz (1801-1871). Da han var livfuld, lærelysten og pligtopfyldende, blev han 1807 sekondløjtnant udmærkede sig 1808, 09 og 13 og deltog i 111 Auxiliaircorps i Frankrig, hvor han oversatte stykker af Holberg og Ingemann til tysk.
