‎1 volume in-folio (41, cm x 29,5 cm), percaline bleue à la bradel, dos lisse à motifs dorés, filet doré en encadrement des plats avec motifs en coins et motifs dorés au centre, filet à froid sur les plats, tranches dorées, ex-dono sur la première garde à Monsieur Edward Langlay [?], par F.B. Blake[?], texte en anglais, [6]-63-1 bl. pages (complet). Frottements à la reliure, rares rousseurs. État très correct. Nouvelle édition illustrée d’un frontispice ainsi que de 8 gravures hors-texte par Gustave Doré. Recueil de poèmes choisis parmi les textes de Thomas Hood. Thomas Hood, (1799-1845), est un poète anglais. Il était surtout apprécié pour ses vers comiques et satiriques, faits de jeux de mots et de quiproquos. Cependant les vers émus et profonds qu'il écrivit avant de mourir restent aujourd'hui parmi ses chefs-d'œuvre : The Song of the Shirt (1843), The Bridge of Sighs (1844). C'est de ce dernier poème qu'est sortie la fameuse formule "Any where out of the world", citée par Poe dans The Poetic Principle et reprise en titre d'un des poèmes en prose de Baudelaire, qui a traduit The Bridge of Sighs en avril 1865. Agréable exemplaire. ‎

‎Two volumes (both first editions 1872) bound together in a beautiful dark blue full leather binding with gilt decoration to the boards and the spine. The binding is slightly rubbed to the edges, with slight cracking to the bottom edge of the spine. but otherwise in very good condition. The binding is signed "Bound for George Rutland, Newcastle, Upon Tyne" We cannot find a binder of this name, but there was a publisher of (primarily) angling and fishing books based in Newcastle in this period, so it is presumably done for him. Inside, there is light to moderate foxing to many of the pages. Rear end papers have a darkening to the edges. This volume includes both the "Poems illustrated" and the subsequent volume "again illustrated" Pagination: viii, 109, [i]. vii, [i], 180 pp.‎
