Expecting someone taller
London Macmillan 1987 Première édition. Très bel exemplaire de ce livre, le troisième roman de Holt et son premier ouvrage de bande dessinée. Il est basé sur la mythologie de Der Ring des Nibelungen de Wagner. La jaquette picturale est propre et soignée. Une petite manipulation sur le bord inférieur. Les planches bleues du livre sont en bon état, bien qu'il y ait un peu de frottement sur le bord inférieur des planches, et de légères bosses en haut et en bas de la colonne vertébrale. Le corps du livre est en excellent état. 218 pages. 21,5 cm x 15 cm
First edition. A very nice copy of this book, Holt's third novel, and his first comic work. It is based on the mythology of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. Clean and neat unclipped pictorial dust wrapper. Fractional handling to the bottom edge. The blue boards of the book itself are in good, clean condition, although there is a little rubbing to the bottom edge of the boards, and slight bumping to top and bottom of spine. Book block is in excellent, clean condition. 218 pages. 21.5cm x 15 cm .

Trois carnets du peintre Norvégien Alfred Krogh Holt contenant de nombreux dessins (crayon, encre et aquarelle) des années 1950 : paysages ruraux et urbains d'Anvers, Paris (dont Notre-Dame), la côte d'Azur, etc., portraits (principalement des nus), et études d'oeuvres (Cézanne, Rembrandt...), annotés en norvégien et en français.Holt (1919-1997) intégra l'atelier de Lhote en 1951. Summary The history of the Far North is tinged by dark fantasies. A remote location, harsh climate, a boundless and often mountainous wasteland, complex ethnic composition, and strange ways of life: all contributed to how the edge of Europe was misunderstood by outsiders. Since ancient times, the North has been considered as a place that exuded evil: it was the end of the world, the abode of monsters and supernatural beings, of magicians and sorcerers. It was Europe's last bastion of recalcitrant paganism. Many weird tales of the North even came from within the region itself, and when newly literate Scandinavians began to re-work their oral traditions into written form after 1100 AD, these myths of their past underlay newer legends and stories serving to support the development to Christian national monarchies. The essays in this volume engage closely with these stories, questioning how and why such traditions developed, and exploring their meaning. Through this approach, the volume also examines how historiographical traditions were shaped by authors pursuing agendas of nation-building and Christianization, at the same time that myths surrounding and originating among the multi-ethnic populations of the Far North continued to dominate the perception of the region and its people, and to define their place in Norwegian medieval history.
