The work was published in instalments for the first time in 1894 in the Gazzetta Polacca and collected in one volume in 1896. The writing had an international success so much that Sienkiewicz won the Nobel prize for litterature in 1905. Signature in the title page dated 1952. Inside pages are in good conditions with occasional foxings.
