Première traduction française des Memoirs relative to the state of India (Londres, 1786), qui forment un précieux compte-rendu des derniers moments de l'administration de Warren Hastings (1732-1818), premier gouverneur général des Indes britanniques (le poste fut créé pour lui en 1773). Bien sûr, le texte est apologétique (Hastings le rédigea pendant son voyage de retour en Angleterre, alors qu'il savait devoir subir une procédure d'impeachment devant le Parlement), mais il renferme quantité de notations qu'on ne trouve pas ailleurs, et sa version française est devenue rare en dépit de trois éditions consécutives
