‎First edition of the first text book of astronomy based on Newtonian principles. Apart from its importance in the remodeling of astronomy in conformity with physical theory, the work is of the utmost importance as a source book - it contains the FIRST PRINTING OF NEWTON'S PAPER ON LUNAR THEORY (""Lunae Theoria Newtoniana"", pp. 332-336) as well as the FIRST EXPOSITION OF NEWTON'S CLASSICAL SCHOLIA, which Newton himself considered an important part of his philosophy.Gregory, a Scottish mathematician, who taught at Edinburgh and Oxford, was one of Newton's closest friends and associates. Newton thought highly of his work and communicated for insertion it in his Lunar Theory. He also permitted Gregory to use the material of that which is known as his ""Classical Scholia"", which are incorporated into Gregory's preface. ""Newtonian scholars have long been aware of a set of draft Scholia to Propositions IV to IX of Book III of the ""Principia"". These were composed in the 1690's, as part of an unimplemented plan for a second edition of the work. Since they describe supposed anticipation of Newton's doctrines in the thought of Greco-Roman antiquity, they have been known as the 'classical' Scholia..... Newton's thoughts on these matters were not, however, kept completely concealed. HE PERMITTED DAVID GREGORY TO USE THE MATERIAL EXTENSIVELY in a long historical preface to his ""Astronomiae Physicae & Geometricae Elementa"" (1702), IF WITHOUT ATTRIBUTION. (It was also available to Maclaurin for his much later work)."" (McGuire & Rattansi in ""Newton and the Pipes of Pan"", 1966).""It was the first textbook composed on gravitational principles, and remodeling astronomy in conformity with physical theory. ‎Deze publicatie biedt een overzicht van het schilderkunstig oeuvre van de Belgische kunstenaar Karin Hanssen ( Antwerpen 1960). Ze begon te schilderen in 1985 maar toen ze in 1994 de film 'The Thrill of it All' zag, een screwball comedy (amusementsfilm met in de hoofdrol Doris Day-1963) besloot ze om haar werk toe te spitsen op het thema van het sociaal determinisme en te werken met de flashback. Het boek behandelt deze periode van 1994 tot en met 2009, De auteurs, Philippe Van Cauteren (artistiek directeur S.M.A.K., Gent, Belgie), Gregory Salzman (onafhankelijk curator en schrijver over hedendaagse kunst, Amherst, MA, V.S.) en David Broker (artistiek directeur CCAS, Canberra, Australie) bekijken op een diepgaande manier Hanssens werk vanuit uiteenlopende culturele en theoretische invalshoeken. De belangrijkste aspecten van haar werk worden onderzocht, zoals de toepassing van tijdsdesorientatie, sociale semiotiek en 'de geleende blik'. Karin Hanssens werk was te zien in verschillende internationale tentoonstellingen. Ze vertegenwoordigde Belgie op de 7e Sharjah Biennale (V.A.E.) en nam deel aan de 2e Yokohama Triennale (Japan) in 2005. In 2009 werd haar werk getoond in de tentoonstelling UN-SCR-1325, Chelsea Art Museum, New York (V.S.). Si cette idée est déjà en germe dans un certain nombre d'études sur le langage du rationalisme européen et spécialement français du XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, redécouvertes et traduites en des termes formels précis, on peut dire qu'un des mérites majeurs de la grammaire générative est d'avoir donné à ces idées classiques un contenu précis et testable. À la même période, en effet, Eric Lenneberg travaillait sur certains phénomènes qui allaient constituer un certain nombre de champs naturels du programme de recherche biolinguistique tels que la génétique de l'acquisition du langage, les troubles du langage (comme la dyslexie), les enfants-loups, la détermination de la période critique pour l'acquisition du langage, l'étude de jumeaux, et, de problèmes liés à l'évolution du langage. Ces travaux ont en particulier abouti à la parution du volume édité par Eric Lenneberg Biological Foundations of Language pour lequel Noam Chomsky a contribué à un chapitre intitulé « The Formal Nature of Language ». - Cet ensemble de travaux a provoqué une rencontre interdisciplinaire sur les liens entre langage et biologie à Dedham, Massachusetts, en 1974, parrainée par la Fondation Royaumont. Cette réunion organisée par Massimo Piatelli-Palmarini a permis à un certain nombre de chercheurs en biologie et en linguistique de se rencontrer pour discuter de problèmes liés au langage et à l'esprit/cerveau, dialogue correspondant aux vux formulés par Chomsky et Salvador Luria, Prix Nobel de physiologie ou médecine 1969. C'est dans les rapports écrits après cette conférence que le terme « biolinguistique » est apparu la première fois. Cette conférence a été suivie par une autre à Paris en 1975 intitulée Ontogenetic and phylogenetic Models of Cognitive Development, elle aussi organisée par Piatelli-Palmarini. Cette conférence à laquelle ont participé Noam Chosmky, Jean Piaget, et de nombreux biologistes tels que Jean-Pierre Changeux, François Jacob et Jacques Monod pour n'en nommer que quelques-uns, a permis d'aborder de nombreux sujets liés à la « biologie du langage ». Paris a joué à l'époque un rôle important dans la diffusion de la grammaire générative, et a permis la mise en place de l'association Generative Linguistics for the Old World Glow autour de Henk van Riemdijik aux Pays-Bas et de la mise en place d'un colloque annuel. L'institut de linguistique de la Linguistic Society of America qui se tint à Salzbourg en 1979 eut par exemple pour thème linguistique et biologie. De la même façon, le groupe biolinguistique créé en 1980 à l'école de médecine de Harvard, sous les auspices de Allan Maxam, du laboratoire de biologie moléculaire, a permis de mettre en place un groupe interdisciplinaire dédié à la biologie du langage.
