L'opera è una feroce confutazione, soprattutto dal punto di vista morale delle teorie del conte Destutt de Tracy (Parigi, 1754-1836). Deputato della nobilta' agli Stati Generali, voto' per la fine dei privilegi aristocratici e del cattolicesimo come religione di Stato.
