‎Édition originale de cette monographie sur Ascania nova (actuellement en Ukraine), grande réserve naturelle protégée qui fut créée en 1874 par le propriétaire terrien Friedrich-Jacob Édouardovitch Falz-Fein (le frère de l'auteur, mort en 1920), autour de la colonie allemande d'Askania-Nova, qui, elle, avait été fondée dès 1828, et faisait partie des nombreux établissements germaniques dans l'Empire des Tsars.
