‎Het schilderen van kinderportretten was een traditie in de Nederlanden. Het genre maakte een echte bloeitijd door in de Gouden Eeuw, speciaal in de Noordelijke Nederlanden, en wordt gekenmerkt door een hoge schilderkunstig kwaliteit. Het kinderportret heeft verschillende gezichten. Sommige zijn buitengewoon ontroerend, onschuldig en hartveroverend, andere dragen een duidelijk moralistiche boodschap uit. ‎The collection of Dutch Old Master paintings in the Szepm?veszeti Muzeum, Budapest, is one of the largest in the world outside the Netherlands and Belgium. This first volume of its catalogue raisonne series discusses one hundred and five Dutch and Flemish portraits from 1600 to 1800, an abundant and varied section of the collection. Represented are such great masters like Anthony van Dyck, Frans Hals, Thomas de Keyser, Bartholomeus van der Helst, and it includes fine works by leading portraitists from nearly all the famous centres of Dutch painting. The core of this material comes from the Prince Esterhazy collection purchased in 1871, which was subsequently enriched by gifts and bequests of further Hungarian aristocrats and bourgeois collectors. ‎Looted Art & Restitution relates the history of the trade, looting and restitution of works of art from the Netherlands before, during and after World War II. Due to the German collection rage, countless artworks ended up in German hands during the occupation. The allies recovered a large number of works of art to the Netherlands after the war. It was the Dutch government?s task to return looted or forcibly sold works to their original owners. The mostly Jewish claimants, however, often encountered bureaucratic and unwilling authorities. Meanwhile, most of the artworks were distributed over museums and depots or auctioned off. It was not until the late 1990s that, in accordance with international developments, the restitution policy became much more humane and a search for the rightful owners was implemented.‎
