‎Antwerpen, Plantijnsche Druckerije van Balthasar Moretus II., 1644 Orig. volle perkamenten band over houten platten, blind gestempeld decor met centraal motief op de platten, rug op zes ribben, auteur en titel in bruine inkt. In-fol. 3 blanco, Franse titel, gegraveerde titel, (16), 1492 gen.pp., (30), 2 blanco. Met een mooie gegraveerde titel met tuinperspectief en portretmedaillons van Dodoens en Clusius door Willem Isaaksz. Swanenburg.. De tekst is overvloedig geïllustreerd met c. 1453 houtsneden in de tekst. 13de editie, verschenen 90 jaar na de eerste bij Jan van der Loe. ‎

‎Deze uitgave is een verbeterde en aangevulde herdruk van de editie die in 1618 bij Frans II en Joost van Ravelingen te leiden was verschenen met aanvulling van nieuwe houtsneden in een oplage van 1500 exemplaren gedrukt en wordt gezien als de beste editie in het Nederlands ‎

With 1341 woodcuts of plants. Full calf, raised gilt spine, double gilt fillet on both covers (binding with some stains and traces of use, lower headcap missing but still an excellent contemporary binding). With a 19th century manuscript ex-libris written in red ink above and underneath the engraved title ; ''Charles Bourqueney à Chatelblanc (Doubs , 1841)''. On the fly-leaf an older note stating that the book belongs to the ''Bibliothèque du petit Pré (?)''. Most of the engravings received an additional latin caption written in a neat 19th (?) century italic hand, in black ink, and referring to the linnaean plant name. Nissen BBI, 517; Hunt 201. This is the most complete Latin edition of Dodoens' '' Cruydtboeck."" . He was the first of the great 16th c. Flemish botanists and made with his herbals an important contribution to the botanical classification system which had begun with Bock's ""Neu Kreuterbuch"" in 1539. The 1616 Latin edition is his last and most comprehensive botanical work, incorporating material from his earlier publications, and containing also an attempt to explain the different parts of the plants. This is a fine crisp copy with no browning inside and without use, thumbing or wear at any pages, which is a rare condition for such a much used book."‎

(mm. 352x220), mz. pelle antica (dorso restaurato), piatti in pergamena maculata, fregi e titolo oro su tassello al dorso, tagli a spruzzo, 10 cc.nn., 860 pp.num., 14 cc.nn., grande marca tipografica al frontespizio, capilettera figurati e 1309 belle incisioni su legno nel testo che mostrano l'intera pianta (radici, frutti e fiori), eseguite da Arnaud Nicolai e Gerard Jansen van Kampen sui disegni di Pieter van der Borcht. Rara "edizione originale" di uno dei più completi ed importanti manuali di botanica del Rinascimento. Frutto della rielaborazione di numerose sue opere precedenti - incluso il celebre Cruydeboeck (stampato nel 1554) - l'A., attraverso l'identificazione di 26 famiglie vegetali, oltre 2000 varietà, con l'introduzione di numerose nuove specie (specialmente esotiche), qui menzionate per la prima volta, descrive e riclassifica quelle già conosciute, dando un nuovo e significativo impulso allo studio della tassonomia e dell'anatomia vegetale. Rembert Dodoens (Malines 1517 - Leida 1585), medico e botanico olandese. Pubblicò importanti lavori di medicina e si può considerare come il fondatore dell'orticoltura in Olanda. Fra le sue opere di botanica, cui deve principalmente la fama, ricordiamo: "Cruydeboek", la cui prima edizione (Anversa 1554) è rarissima, ma che fu ristampata nel 1563 e 1581 e tradotta in francese ed inglese; "Stirpium historiae pemptades sex" (Anversa 1583)..(Cfr. Treccani, XIII, p. 86)Nouvelle édition améliorée du "Cruydeboek". Le texte est le meme, c'est-à-dire que, pour le fond, c'est celui de Fuchs, perfectionné et enrichi de toutes les nouvelles découvertes. Dodoens y a dècrit et figuré mille trois cent quarante plantes, qui sont rangées en autant de classes, suivant leurs usages, et disposées par ordre alphabétique quand ces usages ne sont pas connus au juste. Les planches sont au nombre de treize cent cinq (così Biographie Médicale,III, p. 500). Cfr. Antiche note di possesso al frontespizio; sottolineature e note marginali a inchiostro sulle prime 7 cc. Lievi aloni marginali, fioriture intercalate nel testo, alc. cc. uniformemente arrossate, pp. 261-264 restaurate per strappi, ma complessivamente buon esemplare. Ex-libris al risg. anteriore.‎
