‎First printing of Dedekind groups, named named after Richard Dedekind, who investigated them in proving a form of the above structure theorem (for finite groups). He named the non-abelian ones after William Rowan Hamilton, the discoverer of quaternions.In group theory, a Dedekind group is a group G such that every subgroup of G is normal. ‎L'humaniste et théologien Friedrich Dedekind (1524-1598) fit ses études à Marburg et Wittenberg, où ses talents furent reconnus par Melanchthon. Son oeuvre la plus célèbre reste ce "Grobianus", poème élégiaque en vers latin, décrivant un fictif "Saint Grobien" enseignant de manière ironique aux hommes comment éviter les mauvaises manières, la gloutonnerie et l'ivrognerie. Grobianus, ou Grobian dans sa forme germanique, est un personnage du folklore allemand symbolisant la rustrerie et la grossièreté. Les gens n'ayant jamais été aussi mal élevés que depuis qu'on leur apprend les bonnes manières dans des traités de civilité, Dedekind propose de leurs inculquer les mauvaises manières ; alors, peut-être, leurs mœurs s'amélioreront-elles ? Bon exemplaire. The humanist and theologian Friedrich Dedekind (1524-1598) studied in Marburg and Wittenberg, where his talents were recognized by Melanchthon. His most famous work remains this "Grobianus", an elegiac poem in Latin verse, describing a fictitious "Saint Grobien" ironically teaching men how to avoid bad manners, gluttony and drunkenness. Grobianus, or Grobian in its Germanic form, is a character in German folklore symbolizing boorishness and rudeness. People having never been so badly brought up as since they were taught good manners in treatises on civility, Dedekind proposes to inculcate bad manners in them; then, perhaps, their morals will improve? ‎First edition and first appearance in print of a fundamental paper in ""Lattice-Theory"".""dedekind's number-theoretic investigations led to the introduction of the notion of a ""lattice"" (under the name ""Dualgruppe""), at first implicitly and then explicitly. ‎First printing of these two important papers on gravitational interaction from bodies, such pseudo-rigid bodies, thereby ""opened a new direction"", a direction which later inspired Riemann to turn his attention to the problem""Without the gravitational interaction from another body, such pseudo-rigid bodies havereceived attention in many references. The interest was initiated by Newton in Principia, where he showed that a spinning axi-symmetric self-gravitating body of ?uid that is rotating slowly about the symmetry axis will be oblate. Jacobi in 1834 extended the work of Newton, but also work of Maclaurin, to show that a self-gravitating ?uid also can take on ellipsoidal shapes. The solutions of Jacobi, Maclaurin and Newton were, however, still all rigid. In a frame rotating with the body the ?uid is stationary. Dirichlet and Dedekin, [in the present two papers], respectively, opened a new direction when they found a symmetry that applied to Jacobi's solution generated a new solution in which the body isstationary in shape but the ?uid particles follow elliptical paths in planes orthogonal to a principle axis of the ellipsoid. Dirichlet's paper inspired Riemann to turn his attention to the problem. He gave a classi?cation of the solutions of Dirichlet's equations for which the ellipsoidal shape of the body remains constant. At the heart of this classi?cation lies what is now known as Riemann's theorem: the angular velocity and circulation (i) lie in the same principle plane and (ii) if the angular velocity is parallel to a principle axis then the circulation vector must also lie along that same principle axis.""
