‎Het Antwerpse stadhuis, gebouwd in de zestiende eeuw naar een ontwerp van architect Cornelis Floris De Vriendt, is een van de belangrijkste iconen van de Vlaamse Renaissance. Het gebouw was dringend aan renovatie toe. Het bestuur wilde het stadhuis behouden als zetel van de macht. Dat vroeg om een ingrijpende transformatie die het stadhuis niet alleen uitbreidt, maar ook voorziet van alle hedendaags comfort. Het ontwerpteam (HUB architecten en Origin Architecture) tekende een opmerkelijk ontwerp. Terwijl het Schoon Verdiep in al zijn glorie wordt gerestaureerd, worden de bovenste verdiepingen, dankzij de hedendaagse toevoeging van twee lichtstraten, ingrijpend verbouwd tot ?Verlicht Verdiep?. Het boek brengt een uitgebreide fotoreeks van het vernieuwde gebouw door Stijn Bollaert. Daarnaast werpt het een licht op de rijke geschiedenis van dit unieke werelderfgoed en gaat het dieper in op het ontwerp en de complexe relatie tussen ontwerp en restauratie. Het derde deel van het boek, de ?Werfverhalen?, brengt een ode aan de vele expertises die samenkomen in dit omvangrijk restauratieproject. The building was in dire need of renovation. The administration wanted to keep the town hall as the seat of power. This called for a radical transformation that not only expanded the town hall, but also equipped it with all contemporary comforts. The design team (HUB Architects and Origin Architecture) drew a remarkable design. While the Clean Floor is being restored in all its glory, the upper floors, thanks to the contemporary addition of two skylights, are being radically transformed into the ?Illuminated Floor. The book brings an extensive photo series of the renovated building by Stijn Bollaert. It also sheds light on the rich history of this unique world heritage site and delves deeper into the design and the complex relationship between design and restoration. The third part of the book, the ?Yard Stories,? pays tribute to the many areas of expertise that come together in this extensive restoration project.‎
