‎Une culture forme un tout. Chaque element qui y intervient depend des autres et les influence. L'histoire des techniques n'est donc qu'un point de vue, qu'un eclairage de l'evolution de l'humanite qu'etudie egalement l'historien de la philosophie, de l'art, de la societe ou du droit. Les techniques jouent toutefois un role capital. Ce sont elles qui permettent a l'homme de survivre d'abord, de vivre ensuite. L'outil, au sens premier du terme, fait partie integrante des systemes techniques. Etudier l'outillage manuel au moyen age, c'est decouvrir les conditions et les moyens d'une serie d'activites humaines, professionnelles ou non. Etudier l'outil, c'est faire une investigation au travers de toutes les techniques. Suivant le plan de la collection, l'auteur propose d'abord une definition des techniques et une definition de l'outil manuel. L'outil est un produit, resultat d'une activite mais il est en meme temps un moyen qui doit permettre une activite. Apres avoir enumere les caracteristiques de l'outil-produit et moyen-, l'auteur consacre un chapitre aux sources de l'histoire de l'outillage et a leur critique. ‎The whole series of "Multiples & Editions" realized by Guillaume Bijl corresponds to his installations of a certain period: posters, small compositions, some "Sorry's" or tableaux vivants . Often, these multiples were created as an annex of temporary installations, or with the motivation to help non-pro t organizations, or to cover the costs. De Antwerpse kunstenaar Guillaume Bijl breekt in de jaren tachtig internationaal door met zijn 'transformatie-installaties'. Galerie n en musea transformeert hij tot banale en herkenbare commerci le of entertainmentsomgevingen zoals een tapijtenzaak, een supermarkt of een TV-Quizdecor. Daarnaast presenteert hij uitsneden uit de werkelijkheid als 'situatie-installaties' en 'compositions trouv es'. Minder bekend maar wijd verspreid zijn de multipels (kunstwerken in een oplage) die Bijl realiseert. Deze banaal ogende, door de kunstenaar geselecteerde voorwerpen krijgen een volledig andere betekenis wanneer ze als editie in een kunstcontext gepresenteerd worden. Daarnaast ontwierp Bijl ook diverse posters en kunstenaarsboeken in de context van zijn projecten en tentoonstellingen. Deze publicatie is het resultaat van een onderzoeksproject aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen en brengt voor het eerst alle multipels, posters en boeken van Guillaume Bijl samen. In 1761 Bilguer, the famous army surgeon, published his thesis "Diss. med.-chir. de Membrorum amputatione", a small treatise which can be considered as the foundation of reconstructive surgery. This French translation is much expanded with numerous notes by Tissot, and was later translated into Ducht, English, German and Italian.-- (some scattered light foxing).‎
