First edition of this "historical monument" in Italian, translated from the French «Histoire de la République de Venise» (first ed. 7 vol., Paris, 1819). Translation with notes and observations. Rare complete copy of this publication by the Ticino printing company that was founded in 1830 by Vincenzo Borsa in Capolago, in the Swiss-Italian part. Le comte Pierre Daru, an eminent French statesman, was highly regarded by Napoleon, who made him a councillor of state, a count of the empire, and intendant-general of the imperial household, and employed him as commissary-general, financier, and negotiator. In 1811 Daru became chief minister of state, and in 1815 he was chosen president of the French Academy. Daru's chronological «History of the republic of Venice» is regarded as one of the best works on the subject. “Il n'épargna rien pour en faire un monument historique: recherches sur place et dans les registres de cette république, comparaison des documents imprimés et manuscrits. ...” (Hoefer). Nomm par la suite Conseiller dtat et Comte dEmpire (1809), il accompagna NAPOLEON (qui se plaisait reconnaitre sa capacit de travail) en Russie o il dirigea lintendance gnrale de la Grande Arme. Aprs les Cent Jours, il devint Ministre dtat avec ladministration de la guerre (1815). Protecteur puissant de STENDHAL, cest grce lui que ce dernier fut Officier de cavalerie et auditeur au Conseil dtat.
