With full-page plates from life reproducing insects in natural colors, and with many original illustrations by Anna Botsford Comstock, member of the Society of American Wood Engravers.
1901 (2nd ed.) [iv], 349 p., 196 figs, 18 plates (several in colour), full colour frontispiece, original pictorial cloth with gilt title on spine and mounted full colour vignette on front board. A work by the American entomologist John Henry Comstock (1849-1931). Well-illustrated and with the coloured plates tissue guarded with explanatory text printed on the guards. This is the second edition "in color", the first being published in 1897. Former owner's name written on front paste-down, there also a typed presentatation label. Small, inoffensive blindstamp on explanatory leaf, otherwise a very good clean copy.

The "all-you-want-to-know about spiders and scorpions" book, including the tarantula, black widow and much more. Also useful for identification purposes. Stamp on front pastedown, two tiny worm holes in the spine but otherwise a very good copy.
