In Der Minne, the highly anticipated photographic art project by Tim Tronckoe featuring Colin H. Van Eeckhout (Amenra), honouring the works by Belgian sculptor and draftsman George Minne. In Der Minne is a black and white photography project, focusing on human tragedy. Being an undeniably relevant theme, Tim starts from the sculptural work by 19th century Minne, to transpose his themes onto the photographic medium, using Colin as a medium to echo the feelings of pain, loss and grief. Tim's ambitious project has landed him into this book, a museum launch and a gallery show most creatives can only dream of.

This book brings together the most recent work by Luc Tuymans. It will be shown in the Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh in the autumn of 2015. Birds of a Feather shows Tuymans? fascination with the Scottish Enlightenment and its thinkers, who believed in the ability of humans to shape their future rationally and whose influence extended as far as the United States. Stimulated by a visit to the art collection of the University of Edinburgh, Tuymans did three small portraits of Scottish philosophers, originally painted by the eighteenth-century portrait artist Henry Raeburn. The theme of the Enlightenment is combined with menacing horror: in a monumental dark work, The Shore, which alludes to Goya?s pinturas negras, or in the portrait of the murderer and cannibal Issei Sagawa. The British writer Will Self wrote a remarkable short story for The Shore, and the art critic Colin Chinnery has contributed an explanatory essay.

Summary These eleven essays, all centrally concerned with the intimate relationship between sound, religion, and society in the early modern world, present a sequence of test cases located in a wide variety of urban environments in Europe and the Americas. Written by an international cast of acclaimed historians and musicologists, they explore in depth the interrelated notions of conversion and confessionalisation in the shared belief that the early modern city was neither socially static nor religiously uniform. With its examples drawn from the Holy Roman Empire and the Southern Netherlands, the pluri-religious Mediterranean, and the colonial Americas both North and South, this book takes discussion of the urban soundscape, so often discussed in purely traditional terms of European institutional histories, to a new level of engagement with the concept of a totally immersive acoustic environment as conceptualised by R. Murray Schafer. From the Protestants of Douai, a bastion of the Catholic Reformation, to the bi-confessional city of Augsburg and seventeenth-century Farmington in Connecticut, where the indigenous Indian population fashioned a separate Christian entity, the intertwined religious, musical, and emotional lives of specifically grounded communities of early modern men and women are here vividly brought to life. Languages : Ethiopic, French.

Summary This volume presents 34 studies (750p) in English, French, and Italian, assembled as a tribute by friends and former students from around the world to the late Frank Dobbins (1943-2012), distinguished scholar of the French chanson in early modern Europe. The book is built around studies of music in the Renaissance and Baroque periods (which form the core of the book), together with contributions about music composed between the second half of the eighteenth century and the twentieth centuries; these reflect both the wide-ranging variety of Frank's interests, and the range of his friendships. Secular, sacred, vocal, and instrumental music are all treated, while individual essays focus upon codicology, music printing and editing, music analysis, music theory, text-setting, biography, music and literature, music and theology, and both the reception and sociology of music. They include major discoveries about the diffusion of Jacques Moderne's choirbooks, Josquin's music, and musical and archival sources, while a number cast new light on different repertories. Summary The Glossa in Apocalypsin (Cambridge Gloss on the Apocalypse) is a recently-discovered anonymous Hiberno-Latin (that is, authored by an Irish cleric writing in Latin) commentary on the Apocalypse of John found in a tenth-century manuscript at Cambridge University Library. This gloss is written in a similar style to other Irish-authored exegetical texts of the same period. That is, the author proceeds verse by verse through the entire Apocalypse, citing short phrases or even single words of the biblical text, followed by brief explanations that serve to clarify meaning and are often moral or allegorical in nature, as well as offering alternative interpretations of a given passage. The text has a marked dependence on the hermeneutical method of the fourth-century Donatist Tyconius as laid out in his Liber Regularum (Book of Rules), and applied in his Exposition on the Apocalypse. The Cambridge Gloss promotes an ecclesiological and spiritual interpretation of the Apocalypse, muting speculation about an imminent endtime scenario. The gloss contains numerous references to heretics, emphasises the hierarchy and the privileged role of teachers within the church, and likely dates from the eighth century, the 'Northumbrian Golden Age', exemplified by the works of Bede the Venerable and Alcuin of York. This English translation (accompanied by numerous notes) is intended to give readers an insight into understanding the viewpoint that medieval exegetes held in explaining the Apocalypse of John. The source text of this volume appeared in Corpus Christianorum, Series Latina as Glossa in Apocalypsin e codice Bibliothecae Vniuersitatis Cantabrigiensis Dd.X.16 (CC SL, 108G). References to the corresponding pages of the Corpus Christianorum edition are provided in the margins of this translation.

The two extensive sets of drawings and watercolours date from different creative phases from the early 1960s to the present day. Through this direct medium the works provide an intimate insight into the artist?s creative process across the past five decades. An interview with Georg Baselitz conducted to mark this publication provides information about the significance of the works on paper in the genesis of his works and within his oeuvre.
