Ioannis Bapt. et Evang.), small circular ex-library stamps on fly-leaf and verso title. The author, 1644-1696, became prince-abbot of Sankt Gall in 1687 and a cardinal in 1695. This work aims to refute gallicanism, in particular Louis Maimbourg, 1610-1686, a French church historian, expulsed from the jesuits in 1681 by Pope Innocent XI for his gallican views.
