Reliures de l’époque basane havane, dos lisses ornés de petits fers encadrés de listels dorés, pièces de titre et de tomaison maroquin vert-émeraude, plats encadrés de roulettes dorées, tranches dorées, XVI-99-112-105-164 pp., en frontispice portrait de Gravelot par De Latour gravé par Gaucher, portrait de Cochin, par Monnet, gravé par Gaucher, 4 titres gravés par Choffard, De Ghendt et Legrand, 202 figures gravées sur cuivre, tirées des Almanachs iconographiques des années 1765 à 1781, d'après Cochin et Gravelot. Bon exemplaire tiré sur grand papier avec les figures avant la lettre.‎

‎ Paris, chez Lattré graveur, rue St. Jacques..., s.d. ( 1791 from the introduction ), 4 volumes large in-8°, 21,8 x 13,3 cm. [1] (6)nn pp ( engraved title , 2 engraved portraits) + xvi pp + 99 pp + 45 engravings. [2] (2)nn pp (engraved title) + 112 pp + 48 engravings. [3] (2)nn pp (engraved title) + 106 pp + 49 engravings. [4] (2)nn pp (engraved title) + 168 pp + 60 engravings. ( complete). Bound in 4 uniform contemporary full mottled calf bindings. Smooth spine with gilt decoration and two labels. Triple fillets on both covers. All edges gilt. A fine set on large paper. Printed armorial ex-libris William Vincens Bouguereau in the first volume. Nice complete copy of the famous image dictionary, for the use of artists and art lovers, based on the iconology by Cesare Ripa ( 1593). This collection of 350 figures (on 202 plates) was begun by Hubert Gravelot. Upon his death in 1773 the editor continued with Charles-Nicolas Cochin who also did not live to see this publication (he died in 1790). See Cohen pp. 456 - 457. See also ''Ch.
