Shanghai, Kelly & Walsh, 1934 (1st edition). 1 large volume, folio (15*10.5 inches), 84 pp., hardcover, cloth covered boards with a photograph inserted, one coloured map and numerous photographic illustrations and black and white sketches by Schiff throughout the text. A good copy, despite some soiling on the cloth boards and small tears on the edges. Inside is clean and in good condition.
First and only edition of this rare volume on Peking in the thirties. An interesting mixture of nice photographs by Ellen Catleen and humoristic drawings and sketches by Schiff. Ellen Catleen was the wife of the former Netherlands Minister in China, Thorbecke. She published books on Hong Kong, Shanghai and Peking. Schiff was a famous Austrian Cartoonist and Illustrator working for many newspapers and magazines in Shanghai.
