‎Leipzig, Friderici Lanckisii, 1699. 4to. In a nice contemporary Cambridge-style mirror binding with four raised bands and richly gilt spine. Small paper-label pasted on to top of spine. Wear to extremities, boards with a few scratches and head of spine chipped. Previous owner's name (Paulus Petræus) in contemporary hand to upper margin of front free end-paper. With occassional light miscolouring in upper margin. Pp. 1387-1460 with worm-tract in upper margin, not affecting text. A nice copy. (22), 1722, (81) pp. + frontispiece.‎


‎The rare first edition of this collection of dissertation by Johann Carpzov published by his brother Samuel Carpzov. Johann Benedict Carpzov II (1639–1699) was a prominent German Lutheran theologian from Leipzig. A key figure in Lutheran orthodoxy he studied and taught theology at the University of Leipzig, defending traditional Lutheran doctrine against Calvinism and other emerging theological movements. ‎
