This copy was then bought by Daniel Wyttenbach in 1779 at the auction of the library of P. Burman, Leiden, 27th sept. 1779 . He writes on the first fly leaf ; '' D. Wyttenb. 1779. / Ex Bibl. Burm. 16 st. ( price 16 st.). Further with the engraved ex-libris of W.H. Mill (English, 19th century).."‎

Picart 1713). Petit manque de peau (quelques millimètres) en haut du dos du troisième volume, sinon bon exemplaire, les reliures d'époque étant solides et l'intérieur frais.‎

‎Peter Burmannus ou Pieter Burman, né à Utrecht 1668-1741, docteur en droit, professeur d'histoire, d'éloquence et de grec, fit de nombreux travaux dans le domaine de la littérature classique.‎

Hedendaags blind gestempeld wit leer met titels in zwarte inkt op de rug. Het leer is wat donkerder geworden, met een gerepareerde scheur in de bovenrand van de rug. Inwendig schoon en netjes, met een beetje markering / donkerder geworden, vooral aan de randen. Al met al een heel mooi exemplaar. 27cm x 21.5cm. [14], xxxii, [2], 1112 pagina's. Claudius Claudianus, beter bekend als Claudianus, was een Latijnse dichter die leefde van ongeveer 370 tot 404 AD. Hij werd geboren in Alexandrië, Egypte, en sprak Grieks met een sterke kennis van de Latijnse literatuur. Hij staat bekend als een van de laatste grote dichters van het heidense Rome en diende als hofdichter tijdens het bewind van keizer Honorius in Milaan, nauw verbonden met de generaal Stilicho.‎

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he was a Greek speaker with a strong knowledge of Latin literature. He is renowned as one of the last major poets of pagan Rome and served as a court poet during the reign of Emperor Honorius in Milan, closely associated with the general Stilicho. .‎

On the first paste down a nice engraved ex-libris of '' Charles van Hulthem '', with an inventory date or number in ink underneath (1819). On title and verso title small cancellation stamp of the Bibliothèque Royale de Belgique (dated 1861). Interesting provenance. Van Hulthem's library of over 30.000 volumes was bought en bloc by the young Belgian Royal Library. This book was sold in 1861as a double.‎
