‎Summary This sophisticated volume sheds new light on the transmission of texts in the medieval period by drawing into dialogue a study of medieval translation between English and French with questions concerning the Chaucerian canon and its reception. The author takes as a focus point three Middle English translations of French-language works - The Romaunt of the Rose, the Belle Dame Sans Mercy, and An ABC to the Virgin - and assesses the way in which these works respond to and reconfigure their source material, while at the same time questioning how the connection of these translations with Chaucer has influenced our critical understanding of them. In this book, these three translations are therefore removed from their habitual place on the fringes of the English Chaucer canon, and are instead analysed in the context of late-medieval literary and cultural hybridity. The result is a fascinating reconceptualization of these works as creative, cross-channel participations in late- medieval debates, and simultaneously a call for the reappraisal of 'the Chaucerian' as a critical category.‎

‎Exceedingly rare first edition of Robinson’s devotional work focused on the metaphorical ""armor of God"" as described in the Bible, particularly in Ephesians 6:10-18. This passage urges Christians to put on spiritual armor to stand against the challenges of life, temptation and spiritual battles. “Ralph Robinson, born at Heswall, Cheshire, was educated at St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1639 and a Master of Arts degree in 1642. He was ordained at St. Mary Woolnoth, Lombard Street, London, in 1643, by an ad hoc presbytery convened by London ministers for this purpose. A dedicated Presbyterian, Robinson instituted the government of elders in his congregation in 1646, and the following year, served as clerk for the first assembly of provincial ministers in London. Robinson united with the provincial ministers in the protest against the king’s death in 1649. Two years later he was arrested for being involved with the conspiracy of Christopher Love to return Charles II to the throne. He was held for some weeks in the Tower of London but was released before trial when he promised to submit to the government. Though he returned to pastor St. Mary Woolnoth, he never recovered fully from the effects of imprisonment. He died in 1655 at the age of forty-one and was buried in the chancel of his church. Simeon Ashe preached his funeral sermon. Robinson was a dedicated preacher, a faithful husband, and a devoted father. GOURSAT, le livret est signé Camille Ducray et la musique d'Henri Christiné. Les six 78 tours sont interprétés par André Urban (dans le rôle de Robinson Crusoë), Aissa (Vendredi), le chien, le chat, le perroquet (Esau), le Capitaine du navire (Baldouce). chaque pochette comprend une strophe de l'opérette et une phrase musicale avec une portée. ‎First printing of Robinson's new experiments and researches into the constants of the Cup-Anemometer which he invented in 1846 by modifying Whewell's instrument by the introduction of the now-familiar windmill with hemispherical cups.""A simple type of anemometer is the cup anemometer, invented (1846) by Dr. John Thomas Romney Robinson, of Armagh Observatory. It consisted of four hemispherical cups each mounted on one end of four horizontal arms, which in turn were mounted at equal angles to each other on a vertical shaft. The air flow past the cups in any horizontal direction turned the cups in a manner that was proportional to the wind speed. Therefore, counting the turns of the cups over a set time period produced the average wind speed for a wide range of speeds. On an anemometer with four cups it is easy to see that since the cups are arranged symmetrically on the end of the arms, the wind always has the hollow of one cup presented to it and is blowing on the back of the cup on the opposite end of the cross.""‎

‎Bon état (ex libris ms., très bon état par ailleurs). Jacques-Ramsay Robinson est connu en particulier comme l'un des concepteurs du célèbre Pont de Tancarville. Il a donné son nom à un type de dalle mixte (tôle et béton), qui offraient un gain de poids et permettaient d'augmenter la longueur des tabliers des ponts. Les dalles mixtes ont été utilisées en particulier sur le pont de Tancarville et le pont d'Aquitaine, à Bordeaux. Poids de 1,9 Kg.‎
