‎(Anonyme. - A Virginian): ‎

Reference : 140728aaf

‎The American wanderer through various parts of Europe in a series of letters to a Lady. ‎

‎London, Printed for J. Robson, 1783, lg. in-8vo, XVI + 422 p., bound in contemporary English tree calf, neatly rebacked in keeping orig. spine, with original red morocco spine label re-laid. In fine condition‎

‎The author, styling himself a Virginian, writes of his European travels during 1776-77. He seems to have paid particular attention to French and British ladies, even noting such delicate things as French ladies' legs and feet. He likes Paris palaces better than those in London, and seems to be a Francophile through and through, citing the French predilection for learned men. On p. 210 he writes: „I have, and I will explore all the towns, villages, and hamlets in France, Switzerland, and Germany - I will mount the green hills of Savoy - The Alps and Perineans finking before me...“. The author remains anonymous but he was a loyalist refugee. Image disp.‎
