Plein maroquin vert, dos lisse estampé à froid, encadrement de filets à froid sur les plats, monogramme estampé à froid M.G. au centre du 1er plat avec couronne à 9 branches, roulette sur les coupes, tranches dorées, gardes de soie moirée.‎

‎Somptueux album comportant 71 dessins dans la lignée de lécole française de la première partie du XIXe siècle. Dans les milieux aristocratiques, lart de laquarelle a été fervemment pratiqué, notamment par les femmes, et parfois à un niveau très élevé. Cet album en est un bel exemple. Il comporte 1 à 4 dessins de tailles diverses sur chaque ff. (de 48 x 48 mm à 332 x 385 mm) totalisant 71 compositions originales, dont 57 en couleur et 14 au crayon gris. Quelques-unes sont signées et datées : "Hyacinthe Foissey" (1792-?) ; "Lemercier 1822" (1797-1859) ; Louis Dupasquier 1827 (1808-1885) ; Chevallier 1870 et 1846. Une grande partie des dessins sont de la même main et non signés. Ils sont dune grande finesse. Parmi les sujets, sont représentés : personnages féminins et masculins, marins, bourgeois, scènes orientales, scènes paysannes, scènes de piétés, côtes normandes et baie du Mont Saint-Michel, sud de la France et méditerranée, moines, cardinal, portraits, scènes de courtoisie, enfants, etc. Lalbum porte létiquette de la Maison Giroux. Important fabricant parisien de meubles et daccessoires de luxe, il est surnommé le marchand des princes car ses produits étaient destinés à une clientèle aristocratique et bourgeoise. Créé en 1799 par François-Simon Giroux (1776-1848) au 7 rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré à Paris puis repris en 1838 par ses fils, Alphonse-Gustave (1810-1886) et André (1801-1879) sous le nom Alphonse Giroux et Cie, la maison est finalement transférée au 43 bd des Capucines en 1857. Létiquette du relieur permet ainsi de dater la confection de notre album entre 1838 et 1857. En outre et en vue de la renommée de la Maison Giroux, il est très probable que cet album ait été offert comme cadeau et ait été personnalisé avec le monogramme et le titre de la personne (couronne à 9 branches): la comtesse M.G, probable autrice des dessins non-signés. Full green morocco, smooth cold-stamped spine, framed with cold-stamped fillets on the boards, cold-stamped monogram "M.G." in the center of the first board with nine-pointed crown, roulette on the edges, gilt edges, moiré silk endpapers. Important Parisian manufacturer of furniture and luxury accessories, he is nicknamed "the merchant of princes" because his products were intended for an aristocratic and bourgeois clientele. Created in 1799 by François-Simon Giroux (1776-1848) at 7 rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré in Paris, then taken over in 1838 by his sons, Alphonse-Gustave (1810-1886) and André (1801-1879) under the name "Alphonse Giroux et Cie", the company was finally transferred to 43 bd des Capucines in 1857.
