‎ Edition originale de cette soigneuse réalisation. Premier plat occupé par la large marque gravée de l'imprimeur. L'ouvrage recèle une abondante iconographie (dont de nombreux spécimens typographiques ainsi que des portraits). Rares rousseurs dans le texte. Du reste, très belle condition. ‎

The first volumes were printed on laid paper. Some of the volumes are ex-library (but nevertheless very clean) and have a small stamp on the verso of the title or/and a printed label on the half title. Very nice set of the only edition of the correspondence of the Plantin press during the years 1555 - 1589..‎

There are no library markings on the inside of the book. Top of title page with an old illegible note. Binding with some use , one small worm gallery in lower margin of lower cover, interior fine. ( USTC 405368 ; Voet 1034 Vol. X). Plantin reprinted the 1561 Lyons edition by Guillaume Rouillé of the Corpus Iuris Civilis, edited by the French lawyers Ludovicus Russardus ( Roussart ) and Franciscus Duarenius ( Douaren). The work consists of 12 vols. in-8°. Vol. I-VII - the Digesta or Pandectae ; Vol. VIII - IX - the Codicis ; Vol X Novellae Constitutiones [ our present volume]. Vol. XI - XII - Institutiones and general index. It remains doubtful if Plantin ever paid copyright for this reprint ( see Voet)."‎

The penultimite laef with a small marginal paper restoration. With a 19th c. note of a Brussels' collector ( F.C.B. ?) on the first paste down. Bound in contemporary overlapping ivory coloured vellum, manuscript title on smooth spine. A very fine copy. Dictionary of the Dutch language with the Latin and French translations. It contains over 40.000 entries. The genesis of this all important work for the Dutch language has been extensively documented by authors such as Max Rooses ( first curator of the Plantin-Moretus Museum), and F. Bound in 18th c. full mottled calf, raised gilt spine, sprinkled edges, binding with some minor traces of use, with a clear old waterstain in the lower margin of the last 30 lvs, stain larger on the last 5 lvs. Still a fine copy. Dictionary of the Dutch language with the Latin and French translations. It contains over 40.000 entries.
