"Dumas was one of the foremost chemist of his day" (Duveen). The present work, originally published in 1837- here in the Belgium pirate edition of 1839 - is chiefly devoted to the history chemistry, and comprises i.a. the first loge of Lavoisier. DSB (consice ed) 216-17: "His historically oriented Leons sur la Philosophie Chimique (1837) was very influential upon subsequent studies in History of Chemistry". Duveen, 185; Bolton I, 415.-- (French title and title-page sightly stained; some scattered light foxing; a very small piece of paper gone from the lower corner of the title-page; stamp on title, but a good copy of this rare work).
