Johannes ENSCHEDÉ en ZONEN ( publisher & printer ) - [ ] OPREGTE HAARLEMSCHE COURANT Jaar 1829 :
Reference : 52434
"6. Haarlem, Johannes Enschedé en Zonen, 1829, in-folio, 45 x 27 cm. Complete year 1829 ( issue n° 1 - jan. 3 ) -> (issue n° 155 - dec. 29). Bound in contemporary boards, Boards covered in spickled marbled paper. Nice copy with minimal wear and stains. This complete yearly volume of 155 issues lacks the first leave of issue 22 ( febr. 19) and both the issues 80 and 81 ( july). It contains 3 extra leaves as supplement: [1] to issue 65 ( the program of the Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen...) . [2] to issue 83 ( the program of the Nederlandsche Huishoud Maatschappij). [3] Issue 148 = special issue on a new law to enforce the king's power e.g. on censorship. Issue 95 is erroneously numbered as 59. The issue n°125 appears twice. Issue 144 lacks a small corner with minimal loss of text (only the issue's number). Very fine nearly complete year of this newspaper. The ''Opregte Haarlemsche Courant'' is the oldest and most important newspaper of the Netherlands. It started in 1656. In 1829 it published 3 issues per week ( Tuesday;Thursday and Saturday). Issues consisted of 4 pp minimum. The Saturday issue would have 1 of 2 leaves extra. So a total of nearly 700 pp are here on offer. This is a very nice collection of an important Dutch early 19th c. newpaper from the period when the Netherlands were once again united after a separation which dated back from the 16th c."

" Amsterdam, De Hooge Brug ( editor ), Arch. H.TH. Wijdeveld ( typography ), 1919, original double issue 7/8 (july-august). Format square 32,5 x 32,5 cm, 60 pp, printed as a japanese book bloc, stitched together with raffia. Original issue, as published. Loosely inserted and folded is an original woodcut (Diploma exhibition Book trade Amsterdam 1892, size 72 x 43,5 cm) The issue contains approx. 60 large woodcuts printed from the original blocks, some especially made for this publication. They offer a wide overview of the woodcut art in the Netherlands with work by K. de Bazel, N. Eekman, W. Nieuwenkamp, Jan Mankes.... and also woodcuts of some Flemish artists such as J. Cantré, Gustave de Smet. The cover is a lithograph of R.N. Roland Holst. The interior of the issue is perfect. The cover however, printed on heavy paper, shows serious damage to the outer margins ( over a width of 1-1,5 cm). The margin is frayed and with loss of paper. This damage is the result of the wrapper which overlaps the body of the issue with ca. 1 cm. This resulted, after 100 years , in creases and some loss of material. Nothwithstanding this defect this is a complete copy, with the C.A. Cachet's folding plate and the interior in very fine condition.Text in Dutch. (Bibliography: M.F. Le Coultre ; Wendingen, a journal for the arts, Princeton 2001, pp. 86/87 ).."

Founded by Wilhelm Graf Kielmansegg, edited by Alfred Flechtheim, Herman von Wedderkop, Viktor Wittner a.o.'' Der Querschnitt'' was the most sophisticated of the general-cultural, literary and artistic monthlies published in Germany during the Interbellum. Till 1933 it was the platform for left-intellectual and avant-garde orientated artists and writers, with a very international character. The graphic aspect of the periodical was also very important with in each issue photo reproduction of major photographs, and also graphic contributions by George Grosz , Frans Masereel , Picasso, Jean Cocteau. In 1933, issue 4, the periodical was no longer published by Propyläen-Verlag . It came under the influence of the Nazi regime. These issues are very hard to find. Price is for this issue.
