(70),336,(12) pp. The printed titlepage with engraved vignette. 2 full-page engravings (portrait of Erasmus by Holbein and Erasmus' Memorial Stone). With 78 textengravings by Hans Holbein (engraved by Casper Merian), some of which are tipped in and folded, some printed in the text. Lacks the 2 portraits of Holbein the Elder and Holbein the Younger. Some leaves in the middle with faint browning in lower part. 2 of the tipped-in engravings with a bit of repair. Printed on good paper.‎

The work is considered one of the most notable works of the Renaissance and played an important role in the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation.
