‎First edition of Jean Grenier's famous memorial work about Camus, one of a few Hors Commerce-copies (i.e. outside of commerce), printed on Pur Fil. Only 40 numbered copies on Pur Fil were issued, and then maybe a handful of Hors Commerce-copies, also on Pur Fil (only large-paper copies that were issued). Jean Grenier (1898 â 1971) was a French philosopher and writer. He taught for a time in Algiers, where he became a significant influence on the young Albert Camus. Grenier taught philosophy in Algiers, where Camus became his student. A close friendship developed between the two thinkers, and Camus was strongly influenced by Greniers ""Les Ãles"" (1933), so much so that he dedicated his first book, ""L'envers et l'endroit"" to Grenier. His ""L'homme rÃvoltÃ"" was also dedicated to Grenier, and Camus provided the preface to the second edition of ""les Ãles"" in 1959. In November 1968, just after the publication of ""Albert Camus (Souvenirs)"", Grenier was awarded the ""Grand Prix National des Lettres"".‎
