The present work is made up of two polemical essays that both fiercely argue against capital punishment, namely - Camus's ""Réflexions sur la guillotine"" and an abridged French translation of Koestler's ""Reflections on Hanging"", which was first published in English the same year, together with an essay on the history of the death penalty in France by Bloch-Michel.‎
