‎Rara edizione del 1809 di questo splendido album della Galleria di Rubens (1577-1640) in Folio grande. L'opera contiene 25 finissime incisioni su acciaio che riproducono i 24 quadri commissionati dalla Regina Maria de Medici al Rubens. Maria de Medici vedova di Enrico IV ritornò dal suo esilio a Blois nel 1621 e decise di commissionare la ricostruzione del Palazzo di Lussemburgo seguendo lo stile di Palazzo Pitti in onore della sua infanzia. Commissiò al Rubens due gallerie di quadri che ritraggono momenti della sua vita coniugale. Venne nuovamente esiliata nel 1630 a Bruxelles dove mori. Questi quadri al momento si trovano al Louvre. Le planches sono state incise da diversi autorin come Duth; Gabriel, Pierrom Vestem, Gauthier le Jeune, Disart, A. G. Ouyon e riproducono esattamente i quadri di Rubens. Descrizione di ogni quadro e le sue allegorie. Carta spessa pregiata. Tutte le incisioni sono coperte da carta velina. In ottime condizioni. Copertina in mezza pelle coeva con titolo in oro al dorso in buone condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in buone condizioni. Scarce edition of 1809 of the wonderful album of Gallery of Rubens (1577-1640) in large Folio. The work contains 25 very fine steel engravings reproducing 24 paintings of Rubens commissioned by the Queen Maria de Medici. Henry IV’s widow Maria de Medici returned from her exile in Blois in 1621 and decided to commission the reconstruction of Luxembourg Palace in the style of Palazzo Pitti in Florence to remember her childhood. She commissioned to Rubens two galleries of paintings commemorating some moments of her life with her husband Henry IV. She was then exiled in 1630 in Bruxelles and she died there. These paintings are now at Louvre. The engravings have been engraved by different authors as Duth; Gabriel, Pierrom Vestem, Gauthier le Jeune, Disart, A. G. Ouyon and reproduce exactly the paintings of Rubens. Description of each painting with its history and allegory. In front counterplate ex libris of Family Du Dresnay from Bretagne of late 19th or early 20th engraved in 1768 by Antoine Francois Ollivault. Heavy precious paper.
