Georg Bernhard (1875-1944) est un journaliste et écrivain allemand, qui a lutté contre le nazisme. D'origine juive et contraint à fuir l’Allemagne en 1933, il fut le fondateur dun grand titre de la presse d’opinion allemande en exil, le “Pariser Tageblatt”. — "Un brillant – et partial – démocrate allemand se penche sur l'histoire de la République allemande. Sur un point important, ses conclusions rejoignent celles de la plupart des observateurs impartiaux : les sociaux-démocrates n'avaient pas la vision, l'expérience, le courage et la détermination nécessaires pour construire une République sur les ruines du bureaucratique Reich impérial. Depuis la Révolution jusqu'à leur étonnante capitulation devant von Papen, ils n'ont pas réussi à sauvegarder la liberté politique en Allemagne. Et pourtant, ils conservent une grande part de la sympathie de l'auteur. Il n'en va pas de même pour Bruning, Papen, Schleicher et Hitler. Trop de passion politique entre dans le traitement que l'auteur réserve à ces quatre chanceliers." (Books Abroad, 1934)
