‎Le pseudo Desroches (nom d'emprunt) répond à une lettre adressée fictivement à un électeur de Souvigny, que Bardoux, nouveau conseiller général, voulait convainvre du bien fondé de ses convictions. Cette première lettre ouverte avait été imprimée par Fudez à Moulins en 1865. Mayeul reprend point par point les arguments de Bardoux et en conteste les positions trops libérales à son goût. ‎
