Der Hauptteil dieser Schrift erschien 1888 als Aufsatz in der ÇZeitschrift für die gesammte StrafwissenschaftÉ. "This work is concerned largely with the forensic aspects of hypnotism. Forel, professor of psychiatry at the University of Zürich and Director of the Burghölzli mental hospital, emphasizes the place of suggestion in the induction of hypnotism and the implications of suggestion for personality responsibility on the part of the hypnotized. The book became very well known and was often revised and augmented, soon reaching editions of several hundred pages" (Crabtree).
