VICAR, gastronomical Bibliography, 84, give for this edition 255 pages and three figures: our specimen contains only one figure. The title page is a beautiful specimen of typography comprising characters imagination and pretty feature-of-feather. The frontispiece, engraved by BOVINET, represents the famous scene of turbot with the legend "the Senate [Roman] voted on this important business, // and the Turbot was put at piquant sauce". The poem, in four songs, never ends in the very careful formula "a poem was not worth a dinner". GOOD.

| La première édition date de 1801. VICAIRE, Bibliographie gastronomique, 84, donne pour cette édition 255 pages et trois figures : notre exemplaire ne contient qu'une figure. La page de titre est un beau spécimen de typographie comportant caractères fantaisie et jolis traits-de-plume. Le frontispice, gravé par BOVINET, représente la fameuse scène du turbot avec la légende "Le Senat [romain] mit aux voix cette affaire importante, // et le Turbot fut mis à la sauce piquante". Le poème, en quatre chants, se termine par la très prudente formule "Un poëme jamais ne valut un dîner". |
